It's the hottest day of the year and we woke up here to news that a water main break was effecting basically our entire town. The meltdown happening on the Townies' Facebook group is both epic and hilarious. "Welcome to the new Flint", someone who just needed to boil water for a few hours as National Grid fixed a single burst pipe, said.
Regardless, my partner, our dog and I have decided to hole up here for the weekend and ride out the heat and marathon The Detour and Man in the High Castle. Both are great shows for very different reasons.
Anyway, another double dip mail day hit with these two returns the Phillies TTM Frankenset. First up comes Greg Gross. Gross was a utility piece for the Phils in the 80's. A pinch hitter off the bench that came in clutch for the team more than once. He was also one of the first players I remember wearing glasses (him and Glenn Wilson). Both gave me hope of playing ball as a kid with severe nearsightedness even at a young age.
The other return came from Lee Elia, who has such a great sense of humor. I usually finish my requests with "Can I impose on you to sign these cards for me?" Elia wrote on the letter "Just this once!" And then added a "Not bad", which I'm hoping means that he likes the design of the card. Elia made himself famous for very creative rants. One of which lives on at www.leeelia.com. The photo I used has him holding a sign that a Chicago Cubs fan held up for him acknowledging his penchant for tirades. It's good to see that the card was received in the good nature for which it was sent.
Thanks to Gross and Elia, we're now at 23 cards in the Frankenset and 7 for 17 from our last outbound mail day.
