The
Phillies' Frankenset began in April 2019 when I came up with the design for the
Pat Neshek card (card #3). The concept was to bridge the gap between traditional "custom index cards" and true custom baseball cards. I wanted a design that was classy, minimal and had plenty of negative space to accommodate larger autographs and signatures with inscriptions (or, in the case of
Tommy Greene, both). When I got to
Bobby Shantz (cards #1 & 2) I came up with the idea of acknowledging a player's accomplishments while with the Phillies. So since Bobby, I've been adding all-star game and World Series logos as well Wall of Famers. The three exceptions are
Tom Herr (representing the
Atlantic League's
Lancaster Barnstormers and their 2006 AtL Championship),
Mickey Morandini (1988
US Olympic team member) and
Don Carman (1980
Carolina League Championship). I've also, with the exception of Pat Neshek, have used era-appropriate Phillies logos for all players.
