Ron Gant is absolutely best known as an Atlanta Brave, and a member of those East Division killer teams from the 80's and 90's. The pitching corps of those teams overshadowed the offensive contributions of guys like Ron Gant. Gant played for the Braves from 1987 through 1993 before an ATV accident prematurely ended his career. He popped up a few years later, but was never quite his former self. He ended up getting traded to Philly for Ricky Botallico and Garrett Stephenson. Since 2012, he's been co-host of Good Morning Atlanta on the Fox affiliate WAGA.
With this card we're 1/3rd of the way through page 3 in the Fankenbinder. If you want to see the other retuns in the Phillies TTM Frankenset, you can check them out here.
Ron Gant was the first on-card autograph I ever bought at a card show. This was back in 1990, when his combo of speed and power convinced me he was heading towards a Hall of Fame career. Oh well, still cool to have his autograph. Congrats!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten about the ATV accident after the '93 season. But you have to wonder what he would have been like if he didn't break his leg like right after signing that monster deal with Atlanta.
