Summer College All-Star Game Season: Cape Cod League, Futures League & NECBL ASG's On Deck

Three regional summer college leagues means 3 mid-summer All-Star Games every year. This year All-Star season starts mid-week with a Tuesday night game in Pittsfield, MA for the Futures League game at Wahconah Park.

The Pittsfield Suns are hosting this year's game and the teams are being divided into the Hillies and the Electrics, names that honor past professional minor league organizations that played at Wahconah.  The night starts with doors opening at 5PM.  The 7PM game is being preceded by a home run derby and followed by fireworks.

The teams are blended, with players representing each of the league's teams being on both rosters.  Tickets are limited.  I would recommend buying your tickets online and not trying to walk-up.

The Cape League middles the schedule, with their ASG coming up on Sunday July 21st in Oreleans.  The Firebirds are hosting at Eldredge Park.  The field has seating for 400 and total capacity of 6,000.  It is the only CCBL game with an admission fee.  The cost of the game is $5 with tickets available at any CCBL game or by walk-up.  Expect to not get seating so bring your lawn chairs.

The day starts early with gates opening at 2PM.  Batting practice sessions are split by team autograph sessions from 2:30 to 4:05.  Home Run Derby begins at 5PM and ceremonial first pitches set for 5:55.

All-Star season wraps up with the NECBLers at Montpelier Recreation Field in Vermont.  The Mountaineers are hosting their 3rd NECBL ASG at a great WPA-era stadium that hosted (among others) Hall of Famer Robin Roberts.

The NECBL game seems to be geared more towards showcasing the league talent for MLB scouts with a mid-morning combine as well as a league wide meet & greet.  Fan festivities begin at 3:30 with the Home Run Derby, followed at 5PM by the game.

Tickets for the NECBL game are $6 and available online here.  The 2004 ASG at Rec Field drew well over 4,000.  So buying in advance might be the smart play.  Particularly if you're traveling from outside of Montpelier.  There's an additional $2 on-site parking fee.  The team will also be operating a free shuttle bus from Montpelier High School starting at noon.
